Description

Faculty and four MEC students participated in the Great Plains SuperLaunch in Nebraska/Iowa in the summer of 2007. We had a disruption in communications possibly due to payload packaging but managed to get the beacons we needed as the balloon landed—thanks in part to an anonymous motorist who I-gated the beacon to FindU. We had our first cornfield recovery and discovered that cornfields are tough searchers. We were assisted in the search by the hosts, NSTAR, and others and just when we had had enough of the cornfields and were prepared to stop, another helper got the ground beacon on his radio and we managed to get our payloads back.
